Pet photography is all about capturing the true personality of our furry friends, and sometimes that means adapting to their comfort levels. Recently, we had the pleasure of photographing Isla and Ruby, two beautiful black Labradors, in a session that started in the studio but quickly transitioned to the great outdoors.
A Change of Plans – From Studio to Nature
Isla, the older of the two, was booked for a studio portrait session, but upon arrival, it became clear that she wasn’t comfortable in the studio environment. Rather than force the session indoors, we offered an alternative—taking the shoot outside to a more natural setting. Our location of choice was Kincorth Hill, just across the road from our studio, a perfect spot with beautiful natural backdrops.
A Surprise Addition – Ruby Joins the Session
Between the time of booking and the session, Graeme and his family welcomed a new puppy, Ruby. Naturally, we couldn’t leave her out, so we adjusted the session to include both dogs, capturing a mix of solo and duo portraits. Isla and Ruby were the perfect subjects, posing beautifully against the rustic scenery.
The outdoor setting provided a relaxed atmosphere where both Isla and Ruby could truly express their personalities, both individually and together.
The Viewing Experience – Choosing the Perfect Prints
After the session, we invited Graeme back to the studio for a personalized viewing experience on our 100-inch TV. Before the appointment, he had sent us photographs of the wall where he planned to display the portraits. This allowed us to showcase the images at their actual size, helping him visualize how different arrangements would look.
Using our digital tools, we created a mock-up, displaying options for single large prints and multi-canvas displays. In the end, Graeme selected a stunning trio of canvases that perfectly captured Isla and Ruby’s bond and individual personalities.
