Powering Progress: Capturing Innovation and Design with Azuora Architects

We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Azuora Architects, led by chartered architect Fiona Smith (BSc Hons, Dip Arch, RIAS), on two standout projects: the Kilmarnock Pantograph and the Kelty Co-op. Known for her innovative and sustainable approach to design, Fiona’s projects reflect a balance of functionality, contemporary aesthetics, and a strong sense of place.

Our brief was to provide a combination of high-quality still photography and video content for both locations. These assets were used in press releases, social media, and promotional campaigns, and helped visually communicate the intent and impact of these future-focused developments.

The Kelty Co-op – Modern Retail for Community Needs

The Kelty Co-op is a modern, purpose-built retail store created to enhance the shopping experience for the local community. Replacing the previous Main Street branch, this new facility includes expanded amenities and a clear focus on sustainability. The store features energy-efficient systems and a soft plastic recycling unit, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Kilmarnock Pantograph – A First for Scotland’s Electric Transport

The Kilmarnock Pantograph project introduced Scotland’s first rapid on-route charging system for electric buses, located at Kilmarnock Bus Station. This innovative infrastructure enables Stagecoach West Scotland’s zero-emission buses to recharge efficiently while in service.

This pioneering development not only supports a greener public transport network but also serves as a replicable blueprint for future sustainable mobility solutions. It reflects Scotland’s broader goal to reduce CO2 emissions, improve air quality in towns and villages, and move toward its Net Zero strategy.

The on-route pantograph charging system delivers power via overhead connectors built into the roof of each bus. This enables round-the-clock operation and provides flexibility for operators, eliminating the need for lengthy off-site charging sessions.

The UK’s first fleet of six fully electric buses serves rural communities through a partnership with Stagecoach West Scotland. This rollout enhances air quality and aligns with national climate goals.

Video Showcase

We also created a short project video that combines our photography and motion footage to visually communicate the purpose and impact of both the Kelty Co-op and Kilmarnock Pantograph developments.
