Sarah and Mike at St. Machars Cathedral
A beautiful sunny but cold Saturday on the 26th June, David and I were photographing Sarah and Mike's wedding at St. Machars Cathedral, the Botanical Gardens, and then to the Menzies Hotel in Dyce. Click here to see all the images taken.
St. Machars Cathedral is beautiful and although we got some nice shots at the gate and at the door, I think inside is stunning. Even in the doorway looking back out with the arch shape makes a nice shot and is better than looking back in to the dark doorway if you take it close to the doorway outside.
The Cruickshank Botanical gardens is a beautiful setting and being next to St. Machars makes it the ideal location for photography. Often it is just the bridal party or even just the Bride and Groom that go to the gardens. However Sarah and Mike wanted all the family to come and everyone made their way after we left St. Machars.
We took all the groups first so the family could get to the reception. We then went on to photograph the Bridal party so they too could get to the hotel. David was the second photographer working with me and he also left to get the guests enjoying themselves at the reception. This left Sarah and Mike with Sandra (my assistant, or she would say boss!) and I and we took a selection of shots in the gardens before they got into their open top car to have a well earned glass of bubbly on the way to reception.
We had only a few photographs to take and just as we were finished, there was a surprise for the couple. The Hotel manager led Sarah, Mike, with Sarah's Mum and Dad to the back of the hotel into a store where the fireplace from the original Skean Dhu reception was set against a wall so that they could be photographed with it in the background just as Sarah's Mum and Dad had been 26 years previously. I remember taking many photographs there including one of my brothers for his wedding.
