I was delighted to be asked to photograph Stewart Spence’s 70th birthday on Sunday 28th May, when over 300 people enjoyed a fantastic afternoon and evening at the Marcliffe.
Having worked for, and with Stewart Spence for 40 years next month, I was delighted to create a record of his special birthday. Knowing so many of the people made it easier to try and get the photographs during the hectic celebrations.
Doreen, Stewart’s partner arranged the event along with Mandy, Stewart’s PA. When I started as a photographer with Martin Johnston in 1977, I was working with Doreen, who was herself, a very capable photographer.
As you would expect the food, drink and entertainment were all top notch, especially the amazing London Essentials. Their ability to play all types of music around the tables creates an amazing atmosphere. There were some speeches, and a great song by Dr Fiona Kennedy Clark OBE
The brief was to take informal shots with no formal groups, I took over 1100 images, and I also got roped in to video the speeches.
Doreen and Stewart were both very pleased with the images, and their comments are below
